Overview
A coil of roots and soil on the ground — until it uncoils into a long, many-legged root-centipede.
Behaviour
The Rootcrawler lies curled in a camouflaged coil that matches the ground under it. It is hard to see, but not invisible, and it shows no name or marker while hidden. It is a coil ambusher: it never attacks on sight, and wakes only when it is stepped on, struck, disturbed right beside it, or crowded.
When it wakes it uncoils in an instant and tries to root-snare the leg of whoever provoked it. A snared player is slowed but can still fight; walking away against the root builds tension until it snaps (see Snares and grabs).
Its pursuit is short and territorial. Once you are clear, it walks home and recoils back into its coil.
Where it lives
The mud and roots of Mirewood.
After the kill
A Rootcrawler leaves an uncoiled carcass rather than a loot bag. It is meant to be field-dressed with the planned Hunting skill; what it yields has not been decided yet.
